Diesel, Gasoline Each Rise Slightly

Bruce Harmon/Trans Pixs

Diesel and gasoline each edged up by less than a penny, with diesel rising 0.7 cent to $3.91 a gallon, the Department of Energy reported Jan. 6.

Regular gasoline gained 0.1 cent to $3.332 a gallon, DOE said after its weekly survey of filling stations.

Both fuels have risen for three weeks, although this week's upticks were less than the past two.

Diesel's rise followed a 3-cent upturn last week and a 0.2-cent gain two weeks ago. Gasoline jumped 9.2 cents in the past two weeks, including last week's 6-cent increase.

Trucking's main fuel is almost exactly where it was a year ago, with the retail price just 0.1 cent less than the same week last year. Gas is 3.3 cents higher than a year ago.
