ThyssenKrupp's Companhia Siderurgica do Atlantico (CSA) has a new president, the company announced this week.

Walter Medeiros, who comes from ThyssenKrupp, assumed office last Sunday. He's taking the position of Jorge Luiz Riberio, who successfully completed the beginning of the company's operations in Brazil, said ThyssenKrupp.

CSA started its operations in the area of Sepetiba, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in June 2010. It produces slab and plans to produce up to 5 million mt/year of steel when fully operational, it said.

CSA is 73 percent controlled by ThyssenKrupp and 27 percent by Brazil's mining company Vale.

Local media says CSA had trouble operating in Brazil, with delays in the construction of its site and increased investments.

In a statement to the press, CSA said its mill is "operating in a reliable way and with production growing in a sustainable way." CSA's focus now, according to media reports, is to expand its operations and intensify sales of slab in North and South America.
